
MEET SARA
Sara Bauknecht is a Mid-Atlantic Emmy-nominated multimedia producer, award-winning journalist, communication strategist and educator. She has 15-plus years of experience spanning broadcast, print and digital media work in New York City and in Pittsburgh, including gigs with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, CBS News, NY1 News, Penguin Group publishing and Conde Nast. (Fun fact: Her first professional media gig was as a TV production intern for "The Montel Williams Show.")

Beyond her work as co-owner of XSquared Media, she's an assistant professor of communication at Chatham University, where she teaches courses in journalism and public relations. As an educator, Sara is passionate about sharing her versatile media experiences to help empower the next generation of multiplatform storytellers. Her classes strive to equip students with a toolkit of applied skills in writing, editing, and media strategy that are rooted in the fundamentals of media ethics and principles and theories of communication. At Chatham University, Sara’s also a Technology Faculty Fellow exploring the role of AI in journalism and PR education.
Sara's a certified student media advisor through the College Media Association and a board member of the Public Relations Society of America Pittsburgh chapter. She’s also a member of multiple professional and academic organizations, including the Society for Ethics Across the Curriculum, PRSA Pittsburgh & PRSA, the College Media Association, the Online News Association and the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences (Mid-Atlantic chapter).
Additionally, Sara has received multiple nominations and awards for her work, including from the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania Golden Quill Awards and the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors.
Sara considers it a privilege and a pleasure to merge her experiences in media and education to support XSquared Media’s clients and to help them develop dynamic multiplatform strategies to amplify their own stories.
